Imagine 24 kids from rural Uganda winning an ultimate Frisbee tournament to which they have been invited to play in Kenya and they need to charter a bus to get there to showcase these skills & talents, so Be Part of their Story!
Full story: Meet the Bright Parents Nursery and Primary School Ultimate Team from Kisowera, Mukono Uganda. Most of these 24 kids have never left Mukono District, and many have never seen a city besides experiencing what country border crossing means in life.
This September, we a simple school have been invited to do something no rural Ugandan primary school team has done before: representing our country Uganda at a junior ultimate frisbee tournament at Kaimosi University in Kenya. Ultimate frisbee isn’t just a game. For our players, it’s confidence. It’s teamwork. It’s boys and girls playing together as equals. It’s learning that your voice matters — on the field and off it.
The challenge: Our players are under 16. To cross into Kenya, each child needs support. We need to charter a bus for 33 people and feed the team for 3 nights at Kaimosi (33 people = 24 youth players + 9 teachers and coaches).
The Cost:
Total basic cost: $3,630 or about 415,000 UGX per person. However, we understand that this budget may end up being $4,000 when unforeseen health emergencies are taken into consideration. The basic cost takes into consideration the following: meals, accommodations, travel hire, participation fee contributions, travel border crossing fee requirements and teachers + coach allowances. ($110 = expenses for one person; $ 55 = food and lodging per person; $ 10 = each team jersey; $ 45 = travel and tournament fees per person; $550 = Sponsor 5 players’ passports).
Why this matters to us and the possible Impact:
When a child from a village school travels abroad to compete, it changes everything. They come home as leaders, and with this they will show 450 other students at Bright Parents School that their dreams are bigger than their village. They build friendships across borders at a time when East Africa needs unity.
We'll document everything and send you a “team video thank you” from Kenya and a “life experience story”. The kids will take photos and tell their own story of what this trip means. Every donor gets updates from the road and from Kaimosi.
After the team returns from the tournament we will schedule two opportunities to meet with their supporters at their school before the school term ends in early December and at the American Center Kampala.
This isn’t just about frisbee. It’s about showing rural Ugandan kids that the world is theirs too. Help us make history. Share this campaign. Donate if you can. Tusaba obuyambi bwo — we ask for your help.
